2011 Akibacon

Some schools here in the Philippines are embracing the culture of cosplay by having an official organization which students can join-in. The first time that I attended that was organized by a school organization is the UP-AME in UP Diliman — Cannot forget that event because after that event on that place, someone was shot dead within the premises. After that event schools like PNU — Philippine Normal University, and Adamson University have its own cosplay organization recognized by their school admin.


On December 10, 2011 — Last saturday, PUP or Polytechnic University of the Philippines held also an event showcasing the culture of cosplay and hobbies, the said event was called the Akibacon — At the Bulwagang Balagtas. The said event is just a walking distance from our place; ironically, I was the one who is late — My friend went there earlier than me.


The ticket of the event was priced at 50 Philippine pesos; for that price, you will enjoy everything that the said event offers to the attendees.

The said event was hosted by two gorgeous ladies also on their cosplay outfit.



That segment that I grasp was the dubbing contest, contestant will dub on their own an anime scene shown on a projector.


On the said contest, there is a contestant prevails; a contestant dubbed a "master pogi" thingie which gives the audience a laugh at that time.

The next program was the Hotdog eating contest; well, on the said contest, contestant will eat hotdogs on a short-period of time. But, here is the thing on that contest, the contestant are Mister and Miss PUP — Oh my! their figures will be ruined.

At the said guys prevail eventhough they have hard-time finishing the whole hotdogs provided by the organizers — Still, guys has a big appetite even to those image conscious.

The next program was the Pick-up line, this was popularized by the show of Bubble-Gang — A contestant must have a cheesy line which he/she must tell to the to that person how she/he feels, the one who has a big impact at the audience, win.



Other programs at the event are the video presentation of cosfight and giving certificate to the winners of the previous and very successful Otaku Encore held at the Megatrade Hall.

TOEInty Five! Toei Animation Philippines Celebrating their 25th Anniversary in Eastwood City Libis

This is one of my favorite quote that I got from one of my Facebook friends which is definitely true and I believed guys from the 80's would definitely agree with me; "I was BORN in the 80's — We are the last generation who learned to play in the street; we are the first who've played video games, and were the last to record songs off the radio on cassettes and we are the pioneers of walkmans and chatrooms. We are the generation who enjoyed watching Michael Jordan get 6 championships. We Learned how to program the VCR before anyone else, play with the Atari, Super Nintendo and believed that the Internet would be a free world. We are the generation of the Thunder-Cats, Daimos, Ninja Turtles, Batibot, Transformers, Dragon Ball-Z, Bioman, Maskman, Shaider, Starwars, Star-trek, Mask Rider Black, Denver the last dinosaur and Twilight zone. Traveled in cars without seatbelts or air-bags and lived without cell phones. We did not have 99 television stations, flat screens, surround sound, mp3s, iPods,Facebook, Twitter, computers and the Internet; but nevertheless we had a GREAT Time"

On that year one of the company that provide the kids and remembered by heart is the TOEI Animation of Japan. They are also pioneer in japanese animation which they are established in 1946. Times like these where we are living and rely heavily on social-network, mobile phones, and tablet pc's. Japanese animation moved ahead with their anime titles to new horizon by embracing computer-graphics and 3d animation to their animations that they produced.

On November 28; 2011, TOEI Animation Philippines (A TOEI Animation group here in the Philippines) celebrates their 25 years in the animation industry. Held in Eastwood City Libis, the said event was filled with activities. In the morning they held a parade — I did not make it that time because I am still sleeping because of an event that I went the other day. I went at the event in the afternoon for the cosplay competition which winners will take home a big amount of money.


At first, I thought that the event was already finished because saw some people outside the Eastwood premises are going to the jeepney terminal bound to Cubao. It was a blessing that the cosplay competition has not yet started. So I went around the premises. The event reminds me a small convention in Singapore with the twist of reception of a garden wedding.


There are displays of toy figures that TOEI Animation produced in every booth at the area and this is the first time that I saw the figure of Pretty Cure which is very vibrant. Here are the videos of the said toys on the event.

Cosplayers: Cosplay Competition
One of the most exciting part of the said event is their cosplay competition. TOEI Animation Philippines provided the contestant with tent for them to prepare their props and things.

Since I did not went at the event earlier, from what I heard that former Miss Philippines joined the said event and cosplay as a Sailormoon. I was going to the Eastwood cyber mall, along the road I saw them doing their beauty ritual and some of them were interviewed.
The event started in the afternoon; the host of the event can be seen also in other cosplay events — Saw him at the Alodia's fantasy.

They again introduced and thanks the Miss Philippines for participating the event; and also the people of TOEI Animation Philipines.
Here are some of the videos taken at the cosplay competition; all I can say on the event is well organized because of the sanctions will be roll-out to the competitor who will violates it.
One of my favorite on the event and give me a goosebumps are the team who cosplay the Daimos. Here is their presentation of the one of the successful sentai movie.
